Automobile industry is one of the leading industries in India which contributes roughly five per cent of India's GDP. It is growing at a tremendous pace with increasing demand from within the country as well as outside. Due to liberalization, some multinationals have come to capture the Indian market and as a result of this, technological development takes place through research and development. The objectives of the paper are to examine whether the Indian industry is competitive or not and to examine the impact of industrial performance and market structure on research and development. This paper also shows the Schumpeterian inverted U relationship between research and development intensity, and market concentration research and development are affected not only by the last year's profitability but also by market structure. It is based on company level panel data of 19 years from 1990 to 2008 collected from secondary sources.

Diet and nutrition are important factors for maintenance of good health throughout the life cycle. There are many factors viz; income, prices, individual preferences and beliefs, cultural traditions, as well as geographical, environmental, social and economic factors all interact in a complex manner to shape dietary consumption patterns and that affect the morbidity and clinical status of women. The study assesses the nutritional status and morbidity patterns among 214 non-pregnant non-lactating rural Muslim married women of different age group in Cachar district. Body Mass Index (BMI) is used to classify nutritional status of women. The study reveals that most of the women from the reproductive group suffer from acute mal-nutrition problem while women belonging to pre-menopause and menopause group face the problem of overweight and obesity mostly. The study also reveals that women under old age bracket are suffering from more diseases than the other groups of women. Due to the biological changes in their different phases of life, the morbidity rate of the women is different for different phases. The morbidity rate increases according to their increase in age.

The paper examines the relationship between stock market volatility and returns, volatility clustering, leverage effect and the persistence of volatility for the automobile sector of National Stock Exchange (NSE) in Indian for the financial year 2005-06 to 2013-14. The study further investigates the impact of firm size and volatility on returns. The GARCH-M model is used to examine the volatility clustering and persistence of volatility and the relationship between returns and volatility. The EGARCH model is used to capture the asymmetric effect. A panel regression model is estimated to shows the relationship among firm size, volatility and returns. The study reveals that the volatility in all the automobile firms exhibits the characteristics like volatility clustering, asymmetry effect and persistence of volatility in their daily returns. The study also finds the existence of leverage effect in AL, EL, MS and CNX Auto indicating that the negative shocks or bad news have more impact on volatility than that of positive shocks or good news. The relationship between returns and volatility is statistically significant for EL, HMT, HNM, M&M, MS, SI and TM. The study also finds significant small size firm effect on returns

The paper examines the volatility clustering, leverage effect and persistence of volatility for the NSE three broad market indices by using GARCH models. It reveals that the volatility in these indices exhibits characteristics like volatility clustering, asymmetry effect and persistence of volatility in their daily return. It reveals that both the recent as well as past news have an impact on volatility of these indices. It also finds the existence of leverage effect indicating that the negative shocks or bad news have more impact on volatility than positive shocks or good news.References
